Our group attended worship at Main Street United Methodist Church this morning. The Reverend Rick Brooks called attention to us and the job we are here to do and the congregation applauded our efforts (though we haven't done a lick of work yet). Several people made a point to pull us aside and extend their gratitude personally.
Over and again I hear people say that church groups have been 100 times more effective than FEMA. It makes me wonder what else the church could do better than government.

The world could not move without God's hand. We'll have to keep seeing what can be done next with the power of love in our world :)
we missed everyone today, our prayers and joys are with you!
Thanks, Chuck. It's great to know that little church is thriving after all it's been through. I'll never forget how welcoming everyone was last year -- especially the choir, who greeted us with open arms and a couple of spare choir robes, no matter the abrupt introduction. We're all family.
You're correct about FEMA: This administration has made a royal mess of it. After the Northridge earthquake, FEMA was all but heroic in the response in Los Angeles. The government worked like a charm then -- competently, quickly and for the (relatively short) duration of rebuilding. We were blessed with a quick recovery thanks to good government.
But that was then. This is now.
The scale of Katrina is awesome, and the rebuilding goes on and on. I couldn't be prouder of our church for stepping up to do what this administration won't!
Thankyouthankyouthankyou to all of you for doing the good work.
